Brian Ajodhi The Shining Star of Connecticut Cricket
Hartford's Youth Cricket program is currently bearing fruit
in the person of 13-year-old Brian Ajodhi of South Windsor,
Connecticut. Brian is currently a rising star of the United
States Cricket Association (USACA) youth program, which held
its first-ever Junior Youth Cricket Development Program in
Plano, Texas, during the weekend of June 29-30, 2002.
Over
65 kids from all regions of the United States attended this
memorable event which culminated with the selection of the
Under-15 and two Under-13 teams that will represent the country
at upcoming junior tournaments. The youngsters were also given
on the spot coaching during the tournament.
Brian,
who was the star of a U.S.=s Under-13 team=s visit to Barbados
earlier this year, was among the first persons to be selected
to the team. He was also named as a reserve on the Under-15
team. The teams are scheduled to play in their first tournament
at Disney World later in the year. Eight teams from territories
in the region are expected to take part.
Born
and raised in the U.S., Brian who possesses natural abilities
was introduced to the game by his father Mahadeo, who hails
from Guyana, where the game is played on a large scale. The
senior Ajodhi is a member of the local cricket team Riverside,
which plays in the Connecticut Cricket League=s competition.
An avid athlete, Brian excels in cricket, track and field
and soccer. A student at Timothy Edwards Middle School of
South Windsor, Brian who also possesses good academic skills
was promoted to Grade 9 with a G.P.A. of 4.0. He represents
his school and town at soccer.
Last
summer Brian received the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award
in Hartford=s Youth Cricket Program, which is sponsored by
the West Indian Foundation. An excellent all-rounder, who
bats and bowls right-handed, Brian admires and imitates South
African cricket captain and also an all-rounder, Shaun Pollock.
With
a great future in sports, Brian who has a very good personality
is looking forward to the day when he will be able to represent
his country at the top level of the sport. The Cricket Hall
of Fame wishes him well in his endeavors and hope that he
will realize his dreams and become a good role model for other
youngsters to emulate. |
