Greg Chappell joins list of Cricket Hall of Fame inductees
Holding,
Botham nominated for Cricket Hall of FameFormer Australian
cricket Test star Greg Chappell will join the list of
international stars that have been nominated to be inducted
into the Cricket Hall of Fame, in ceremony, which is set for
Saturday, October 2, at the Hartford/Windsor Marriott Hotel,
Windsor, Connecticut. Expected to share the honor with Chappell
is former Jamaica and West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding.
New York cricket administrator, Alfred James will head the
list of local contributors, which include George White of
Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Julius Spiegel of New York,
who will also be inducted.
A presidential award will be given to Phyllis Wilson,
who recently retired from Air Jamaica after 29 years of service.
Wilson will be recognized for her contribution to the Cricket
Hall of Fame in helping to bring in some of the past inductees.
She was manager of community affairs at the airline.
Chappell, the former captain of world champions Australia,
is presently completing a coaching stint in the U.S. He will
fly out of England in October for the ceremony, which is expected
to draw a wide cross-section of attendees throughout New England.
A
special tribute will be paid to former West Indian left-arm
spinner Alfred Valentine who passed away recently, at the
function.Valentine was one of the first inductees into the
Cricket Hall of Fame. Other international inductees include
George Headley, Sir Frank Worrell, Sir Garfield Sobers, Sir
Vivian Richards, Lance Gibbs, Sunil Gavaskar and Gundappa
Viswanath.
As usual the Cricket Hall of Fame is presently working
hard to produce a program with the same high quality that
they have been known for throughout the years. Supporters
can be assured that they will once again get their moneys
worth, the organizers said.
