Sampath regains position on Trinidad Cricket Council
By Stan Walker
Former Trinidad national cricketer Roland Sampath has regained
his position on the countrys Central Zonal Cricket Council,
it was learnt recently. Sampath, who has been coaching youngsters
in Hartford, Connecticut, during the summer for the past three
years, was voted in as vice-chairman of the Zone at the elections
held last month.
The ambidextrous all-rounder, who also plays for the Sportsmens
Athletic Club in the Connecticut Cricket League, has been
appointed to serve as a member of the Trinidadian National
Senior and Youth Selection Committee, and by extension, The
West Indies Cricket team.
Sampath,
who works with The West Indian Foundations youth program
in Hartford during the summer, last year was instrumental
in the launching and coordinating of a program through the
Cricket Hall of Fame which introduced the game to some 75
youngsters (boys and girls). The West Indian Foundation launched
its program some years ago in a bid to help keep this aspect
of West Indian culture alive in these parts. Its biggest success
so far was the hosting of an under 15 Trinidadian youth team,
which came to Hartford and engaged in games with the local
youths. |
